peter frederiksen’s embroideries are a love letter to old-timey cartoons

If Looney Tunes has taught us anything, it’s that the laws of physics are irrelevant: yummy-smelling pies can make you float, extreme violence is hilarious and sound effects follow our every move (although we do not recommend copying Bugs Bunny’s antics in real life for your and everyone else’s own safety). The early cartoons of the 20th century are fully stocked with exaggerated goofiness, something that Chicago-based crafter Peter Frederiksen is particularly fond of and replicates in his embroidery work.

From white-gloved hands setting up traps or lighting up multiple cigars at once (mind you, smoking used to be recommended by doctors back in the day), Peter’s art highlights the wonderful zaniness and dark humour found in mid-century cartoons that we cannot get enough of. Take a gander at Peter’s Instagram or website if you want a closer look at his spiffy art.
