tunesday – hanging out with eves karydas
The pop singer-songwriter lets us in on her favourite time eras, style icons and more.
If you could go back in time, where would you go? I’d love to experience Georgian-era England. I really want to be friends with Elizabeth Bennet.
How would you describe your music to a stranger? Indie-emo-yacht-rock. A bit of a joke but also quite spot-on.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? My mum once said, “You know, you don’t have to prove anything to anyone, ever.”
Who are some of your style icons? Chloë Sevigny, Bianca Jagger and Rosalía.
When was the last time you were starstruck? Back in 2019 I was at an LA party. I walked into the kitchen and, to my shock, saw Lana Del Rey casually eating an ice-cream. I was stunned. The kicker is that the ice-cream was mine – the very last one from my stash!
What are the best parts of being on tour? Getting to connect with my fans!
What’s the best song to sing live? It has to be “Further Than the Planes Fly” because the crowd gets really behind it.
When you’re not making music, what are you up to? I love getting hands-on with graphic design and video editing for various projects. I also took two woodworking courses and I love restoring furniture.
How do you unwind after a big show? I struggle to go to bed almost every night so I have a solid wind-down routine. Chamomile tea, a hot water bottle, a sleep playlist (mostly Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens) and a very low-stakes TV show.
What’s a song you wish you’d made? “Don’t Delete the Kisses” by Wolf Alice. That song is so incredible. I feel everything she’s feeling and lyrically it’s so clever.
