Got the same few tracks on repeat? Replenish your palette with some ace movies based on your favourite musos.
Now, we could sit here all day and gab about how great the music in 2024 has been (so far), but then we'd never get anything done. We've already picked out some rad outfits based on this year's biggest musicians and fashion picks based on the year's biggest flicks, so now we've merged the two into another rad article.
This time, we've jotted down some rad movie recommendations based on whoever it is you've got playing on repeat, which you can check out below.

CHARLI XCX: PROJECT X The queen of partying might have declared 'brat summer' to be over (which really sucks for us Southern Hemisphere folk – it hadn't even begun for us!), but that's not going to stop us from bumpin that brat album 24/7. If you've got parties on your mind and want to experience a rager to end all ragers, we recommend giving this 2012 movie a watch beforehand – so you learn and don't create a party that gets way out of hand yourself. The film follows a group of American high school seniors attempting to throw a party to gain popularity among their peers, however things soon get out of hand when news of their shindig gets out to the public. It's a movie that's so clearly from the 2010s era (and the main characters are incredibly awful) but it still makes for a ripper time that makes us feel like we're experiencing the party ourselves, and we are 100 per cent certain that if this was to be released this decade, brat would find a prominent place in the soundtrack.

MITSKI: PAST LIVES It's hard to not feel unbelievably heartbroken yet at peace whenever we listen to Mitski's illustrious discography, which we reckon can only be visually represented through this 2023 film starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and John Magaro. The story follows two childhood best friends (played by Greta and Teo) over 24 years, beginning with their first meeting in 2000 to 2012 to the present day, showing how even though their individual lives may change, they still have love for each other. It's bound to make you tear up – that's a given – but might also make you reflect on all the relationships and friendships you've had all across your life so far, wondering what everyone might be up to. Of course, we recommend any rumination sessions to be accompanied by Mitski's haunting vocals and introspective lyrics.

SABRINA CARPENTER: DEATH BECOMES HER If you've not yet let Sabrina Carpenter's super-sweet vocals into your heart, we recommend checking out her newest music video (starring Jenna Ortega) which pays homage to one of the most iconic movies of all time: Death Becomes Her. This 1992 movie stars the Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as two women fighting for the attention of the same man (who, if we're being honest, isn't that great of a guy) and, after both drinking a magic potion, become eternally young again. What happens next is a good old camp time, with the performances of both Meryl and Goldie being incredible – and they hold up remarkably well to this day. It's easy to see why Sabrina loves this classic comedy, so give it a watch whenever you can.

LANA DEL REY – GIRL, INTERRUPTED Ah, Lana Del Rey. She's the eternal muse to former-Tumblr kids who would spent their days reblogging 'aesthetic' photos of cigarettes and oil puddles, and it's for a good reason: Lana is the patron saint of grunge girls. Therefore, there might not be any better film that emulates the same type of tragic girlhood and moody femininity than Girl, Interrupted, a 1999 movie that stars Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, Brittany Murphy, Clea DuVall and more. The movie follows main character Susanna (played by Winona) being institutionalised following a suicide attempt in the 1960s, where she makes friends with fellow patients like the naive Daisy (Brittany Murphy) and the psychopathic Lisa (played by Angelina), with the film showing an intimate look into the lives of young and mentally ill girls in mid-Century America. If you're a massive fan of Lana, you'll love this flick too.

CHAPPELL ROAN – BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER Anyone who adores the glam-rock stylings of Chappell Roan and her top-notch music that's dripping with sapphic undertones, this camp classic is for you. But I'm A Cheerleader is another cult-classic '90s movie, this time following protagonist Megan, (played by Natasha Lyonne) grappling with being suddenly sent to a gay conversion camp by her parents. At the camp, she meets out-lesbian Grahram (hey, it's Clea DuVall again!) as they slowly fall in love. Oh, and RuPaul is there as one of the counsellors who plays a repressed-macho-ex-gay man – remarkably well, might we add. Any and all Chappell fans need to give this one a watch, pronto, since it's hilarious, satirical and – above all – full of heart.
