sort out your life with this eisenhower matrix
Let's be real, life can be incredibly difficult to organise. Thankfully, we have a few handy task management tools that can help us out with the hectic nature of our daily lives. The Eisenhower Matrix can get help you get everything down in a list, rather than in your head, and prioritise everything you need to do first.
Print or download the Eisenhower Matrix and fill in all of your to-dos in the following categories:
- Urgent and Important
- Not Urgent, but Important
- Urgent and Not Important
- Not Urgent or Important
URGENT AND IMPORTANT - Do now
Everything in this category is what you need to focus on. While it may seem overwhelming, break the tasks down into smaller tasks and start tackling them!
Examples:
Submit assignment for Accounting 101
Set up appointment with student advisor
NOT URGENT, BUT IMPORTANT - Schedule
These tasks can be scheduled at a later time (after you tackle your most important tasks). Tip for the procrastinators out there (us included), you may find yourself avoiding the Urgent and Important tasks and doing tasks in this segment instead - don't fall into the trap!
Examples:
Find 5 references for essay (due in 3 weeks)
Start next week's reading
URGENT BUT NOT IMPORTANT - Delegate
This is another segment that procrastinators may start on instead, so be aware. Tasks in this segment are to be delegated, however it's not always possible. If phoning a friend isn't a possibility, try scheduling some time to blitz through them at a later time.
Examples
Meal prep for the weekend
Tidy kitchen
NOT URGENT OR IMPORTANT - Delete
Now if you're in a time crunch, tasks in this segment won't be a priority and therefore deleted.
Examples:
Start planning road trip
