frankie’s curated playlist to help boost your focus

We've got some tunes and tips to help keep you motivated with whatever you're working on.

It’s no secret that music makes pretty much everything better. Who wouldn’t want a super-rad soundtrack to play alongside some of our biggest life moments? While we all love to belt out the heavy-handed and emotional lyrics from an 80s power ballad or show off our best moves to a Y2K club hit, sometimes music can get in the way of us focusing on tasks at hand (especially if they’re tedious and pretty boring).

Fear not, frankie readers! We’ve cooked up a lovely playlist to help you all not get distracted with whatever you’re working on, while still offering up a groovy good time. Have a read down below of some of our handy tips on how you can make your own playlist, and have a listen to our selection of tunes too!

PICK SOUNDTRACKS It should go without saying that the fewer words you hear, the easier it is for you to focus. Libraries have been following this no-talking rule forever now, but that’s not to say you need to suffer in terrible silence since movies and TV have a plethora of non-lyrical soundtracks that can help you focus (and make it all sound a lot more epic than it actually is). We’ve chosen a couple of tracks from our favourite shows and flicks that we think nail the ‘I-really-need-to-pay-attention’ vibe you’re looking for.

CHILL LOFI BEATS TO STUDY/RELAX TO Arguably the soundtrack to every single person who’s ever experienced a caffeine-soaked and sleepless all-nighter, these lo-fi tracks make for the perfect study buddy. Usually adorned alongside an anime-esque GIF, there’s a reason why the internet loves chilling out to these soft songs – it’s the only way we can ever get anything done!

KEEP IT CLASSIC Mozart, Beethoven and Bach have been the poster boys for perfect focus music for decades now, and it’s pretty easy to see why. According to a 2007 study, classical music is the prime music choice for helping your brain absorb new information much more easily, so we reckon that you should treat your ears to some good old classical symphonies. After all, if it ain’t Baroque, don’t fix it.

LISTEN TO NATURE Who needs music made in a studio when our planet has been pumping out tracks like ‘Evening Rain’ and ‘Ocean Waves’ since the literal beginning of time, not to mention that birds are pretty much the Mariah Carey’s of the natural world. These sounds of nature are incredibly relaxing which can help us improve our work, especially when they’re related to water.
