check out these curious coffins inspired by the big apple
Ever wanted to be put to rest in a giant bottle of tomato sauce? What about a New York yellow taxi? Ghanaian sculptor and carpenter, Paa Joe, crafted these coffins – known as “abebu adekai” or “proverb boxes” – as highly personalised pieces of art that are built to carry their occupants into the other side.
Paa’s newest exhibition, Celestial Cities, pays homage to New York City with personalised coffins resembling a big apple, bagel and even Lady Liberty herself, which you can get a closer look at this-a-way. If you want to see even more of Paa’s work, hop over to his Instagram while you’re at it.
