scotty so’s snaps highlight the glamour of bootleg fashion
Naarm-based visual artist, drag performer and multidisciplinary creative, Scotty So, uses a love for camp as a basis for his super-glam photography, which is what led to the creation of Hai Kot Tor, a photo series honouring the working-class women he was raised by in Hong Kong.
Inspired by his grandmother – who would rock a fake Burberry scarf while shopping at the market – Scotty crafted individual cheongsam dresses each adorned with fake monogram logos of high-end fashion labels with matching grocery trolleys (and we reckon they’re nicer than the real thing.) If you’re keen on getting a closer look at Scotty’s lovely photos then don’t forget to check them out at PHOTO 2024, at the Art Gallery of Ballarat until the 4th of April. Peep more of Scotty’s work by popping over to his website or Instagram, if you fancy.
