easy ways to put your health first this summer
Four easy and fun tips.
SEE A DOC WHEN YOU NEED TO It’s so easy to delay seeing a doctor because we’re busy or because we think whatever non-urgent medical issue isn’t important enough, but seeing a doctor when you need is super important. It doesn’t have to derail your week, or even afternoon either. Online services such as Instant Consult allow you to chat to a doctor over video call from the couch (or even the beach). You don’t even have to book, you can just request a consultation and they’ll connect you with a doctor then and there.
FIND YOUR NEW VEG BFF Whether it’s a hang-up from childhood or we’re just stuck in a food rut, it can be hard to get excited about vegetables. We all know eating a plant-based food for a good portion of the time is good for our bodies (and the planet) but there’s only so much you can do with broccoli. It can be fun to take a stroll through a market or fancy green grocer and pick out a veggie you’ve never tried before (okra? white zucchini?) and challenge yourself to make something delicious with it. Like a little TV game show, but it’s just you in your kitchen making the best enchiladas of your life with those fancy lil tomatillos.
SLEEP (OK, EASIER SAID THAN DONE) We know sleep is restorative and super important for brain function, but it’s also fun to scroll endlessly on social media! So sue us! If you can reframe your bedtime routine though, it can feel like a treat to tuck yourself into bed with a good book and leave your phone untouched beside you. Bonus points if it means you get an early night and can wake when your body feels like it.
I LIKE TO MOVE IT, MOVE IT It’s so much easier to actually want to exercise in summer because the weather is generally more pleasant (apart from those blistering hot days). Walking or riding places instead of driving can be a great way to make the most of the gorgeous weather and arrive at your destination happier and perhaps even smarter (if a fun podcast was also involved in the journey).
