We'd be pretty happy to set foot in the cool-toned worlds cooked up by Mexican-American painter Anna Ortiz, especially since she manages to make spiky cacti look plush enough to cuddle (which we don't recommend doing in real life).
Anna uses her landscape paintings to explore the cultural divide she experiences as a second-generation American. She drapes her art in soothing hues that reference Aztec and Mayan mythology, which "come to life in dream-like landscapes where they are neither dead nor alive."
