tufted vases by shishi san

You can’t keep fresh flowers hydrated in Shishi San’s vases, but that’s part of their appeal. The Brussels-based textile artist uses the crafty tufting technique to create her fluffy, kitschy vessels. While some of Shishi's vases would sit comfortably on a shelf (our shelves, preferably), others are human-sized sculptures that would look more at home in a gallery.

The designs of the textile pieces are often inspired by Chinese vases, Shishi tells yatzter. “I wanted to create my own version of them inspired both by my own experiences, and by their visual identity,” she says.
