What’s on our must-see list at the annual creativity conference.

If you’re looking at the Adobe MAX 2022 program and your creative brain is having a meltdown over all the amazing speakers and session topics, we get it – we had the same experience ourselves. The free virtual conference for design-minded folk is a day jam-packed with inspiration from people across design, photography, fashion and more. This year it’s taking place on October 20 and you can tune in virtually to soak up the goodness.

To prevent your brain from overloading at all the potential sessions you could attend, a few members of the frankie team have highlighted the sessions and speakers they’re most excited about.

Gemma O’Brien on designing with your whole body
I’ve always admired Gemma O’Brien’s work! She’s inspired me since I first entered the industry. Her bold, colourful style is an absolute joy to look at and hearing how she stays inspired is bound to give me a few tips! Also, as a long-time endurance sport lover I am super curious to learn how she steals tips from this to add to her practice when I tune into her speak about ‘designing with your whole body’.

Srishti Gupta Roy on finding inspiration for your creative journey
I can’t wait to hear from Srishti Gupta Roy. I love her sense of humour (as a typical millennial, I relate to her everyday musings) and how she mixes bold patterns with eye-popping colour. Every time I look at one of her ‘memes’, I find a different part to enjoy. I’m shocked to learn that she only started pursuing illustration properly back in 2019. I can’t wait to learn what her secret is in her talk about finding inspiration for your creative journey!

Behind the magic of animation with Ben Marriott
Ben Marriott is probably the main reason why I still love animation, it’s not the easiest part of designing for me but the way Ben teaches it is so clear and specific every tutorial I’ve watched that he’s made is full of multiple ‘a-ha’ moments. I’m excited to see what he teaches in his ‘Behind the Magic: Engaging Animation and Motion Processes’ session not only because he’s full of wisdom but he’s also a really genuine and humble guy who’s just nice to listen to.

Elen Winata on easy augmented reality illustrations
Elen Winata’s cute dog and cat drawings with clean lines and vibrant colours make me very happy. So I’m excited to learn about how she creates ‘easy’ illustrations using augmented reality with Adobe Aero. (Here’s hoping there’s some kind of augmented reality pooch involved.) Even though I’m not an illustrator myself I’m fascinated by experts sharing how they bring their work to life.

Bobbi Lockyer on finding inspiration for your creative journey
I can’t wait to hear from Bobbi Lockyer this year at the ‘finding inspiration for your creative journey’ session at Adobe MAX. Sometimes I get a bit lost in the ‘why’ when I’m creating something ¬– not because I don’t believe in it, but because I don’t know how to convey my message strongly enough. I love how Bobbi’s ‘why’ seamlessly influences her work in a way that is both clear and visually engaging, and I am so keen to learn more about her inspiration process.

How to manage burnout and protect your creative well-being with Kitiya Palaskas
I speak to lots of creative small business owners in my job and I can tell you burn out is a real thing! I’m excited to hear from craft-based designer Kit Palaskas on how to manage creative burnout and protect your creative well-being. Kit is a treasure trove of knowledge on this front, so I’m sure there’ll be some amazing practical takeaways that I’ll underline multiple times in my notebook.
