Girls Rock! Melbourne is a volunteer-run organisation that holds events for female, trans and gender diverse youth (10-17 years old), with the aim of increasing the participation of these minorities in the male-dominated music industry. At our school holiday camps, participants receive instrument lessons, form bands and create original songs that they will perform and record at a public showcase at camp’s end. Established musicians give lunchtime performances, and workshops focus on self-esteem, empowerment and industry skills. No musical experience is required, and instruments and financial aid are provided so everyone who wants to can attend!
