ruby gill – cinnamon

Music

Melbourne, VIC

After watching wealthy Johannesburgers polish their never-used cutlery for the third time in a singular week, I wrote “Cinnamon” about white privilege. Subsequently, I’ve been told it’s just about food – which is not entirely inaccurate.

This is my quintuple-time exploration of shallowness carved into upper class society’s intricate and ignorant woodwork. I played all the instruments (vocals, guitar, synth, piano, bass, electric guitar, backing vocals) except the drums, which were smashed out by the inimitable Michael Wright. My favourite Greg Carlin produced it.

“Cinnamon” is 1/12th of my debut album, Older, which floats about the internet sometimes.
