I’m a 16-year-old artist from the Northern Rivers, NSW. Two years ago I established my art-making career, drawing pet portraits. ‘Still hanging on’ is a piece inspired by Australian flora and fauna, in relation to our current attitudes towards the protection of native wildlife. I want to evoke the idea that human interactions within their environments blemish the habitats in which they live, eventually eradicating the raw beauty and softness. This work is drawn with coloured pencil on paper, allowing me to explore richness of pigments, varying from muted greys to the creamy pinks of the proteas.
