Aboriginal people who live in remote Australia face extreme economic marginalisation – many people are unemployed and reliant on welfare. Magpie Goose creates diverse employment and enterprise learning opportunities, while also allowing the world to connect with and celebrate Aboriginal people and culture through fashion. Already, we have engaged people in textile design, modelling, photography, screen-printing and marketing. We’ve launched an initiative called Fashion Futures to create pathways for young Aboriginal women into the fashion industry. In 2018, we plan to set up a screen-printing hub in Katherine. Magpie Goose also supports the growth of a number of remote art centres by procuring high volumes of textiles.
