As a starting point, I began to consider Australian flora and fauna, and the Major Mitchell’s cockatoo. Through twists and turns, I started looking at this as an abstract idea, rather than a literal translation. I was informed by the materiality of the pleated fabric and the way it draped on the body. As this piece developed, it became less about the translation of Australian flora and fauna, and more about the layering of fabric and the way light passes through it.
