This project started with one question: what would a paper painting look like? I identified techniques used in historical paintings and applied them to paper. To start, I selected a historical painting with a great story and striking presence. After simplifying the form through sketches, I cut shapes from cardstock. Each piece was then layered with ink and glued together, while a digital scan offered texture to reward viewers who take a closer look.
