hanna mancini – diminishing dormancy

Craft

I’m an illustrator, crafter and general creative type working under the moniker Hannakin. Diminishing Dormancy is a soft sculpture I made for a group exhibition back in September 2019. The piece was entirely hand sewn using wool felt, embroidery thread and glass beads. The garden portion took around 30 hours of hand stitching and embroidery, while the final piece took 40 hours to complete. Conceptually, the piece is an exploration of nature and growth. Parts of the natural world can appear dormant, while being very much alive upon closer inspection. One side of the forest spirit sleeps (one eye keeps watch), while the other side is bursting with vibrancy and life.
