Protea Lady is part of a series of linocut prints that evolved from the idea of mothers forever seeking to find balance in their lives. The shape of this lady is rounded at the bottom like a roly-poly balance toy that never falls, but is in a constant state of balancing. Protea Lady has protea flowers, vines and a little bird featured on her clothing. Her eyes are looking to the side – a reference to Les fleurs dédaignées, a beautiful painting by the Australian artist Hilda Rix Nicholas.
