Wellington, NZ

In 2015, I was helping to resettle refugee families in Wellington and I noticed many of the women shared my love of sewing. In 2017, I decided to quit my job as a lawyer so I could employ them. I set up the Nisa workshop as a safe and empowering space for women from refugee backgrounds to develop skills, work and make friends. We produce colourful organic cotton undergarments for women around the world.

Our range now includes briefs, bralettes, t-shirts and socks, plus we recently launched our first swimwear collection. This year we’re moving our workshop into a new premises, which will also contain our first permanent store. Customers will be able to come and see their underwear being made, try on garments, and chat to the team in person. We believe it will be a truly unique shopping experience.
