“I work primarily with fibre, making three-dimensional tapestries with a mixture of weaving and embroidery techniques. In all my tapestries, I try to create a feeling of visual tension between two layers – a flat, woven background, which is usually improvised, and a carefully designed foreground of embroidery work. As with my other work, this piece draws on a visual language of shapes, symbols and colours, inspired by a broad range of influences, including young adult fantasy novels, videogames, and the Microsoft Office suite circa the early 2000s.”
