Notes Toward a Subjective History of Honey is a lyric essay tracing my mother’s death and my subsequent alienation from my body and the landscapes of my childhood in New Zealand, through an exploration of honey as metaphor and mythology. This essay borrows its structure from a bag of honeycomb shards; it is composed of linked fragments and able to be read in a variety of sequences, looking at memory as a kind of honey, exploring stickiness and the strangeness of preservation. I presented this essay as an installation, accompanying the writing with objects and foods relating to its themes.
